Petrol Campervans – The 5 Best Reasons to Buy One

When choosing a campervan, one of the most important decisions to make is the type of engine to go for. Diesel and petrol campervans are the two main options currently on the market, with electric vehicles also becoming more popular.

However, when it comes to choosing between diesel or petrol, petrol campervans tend to be much more desirable for a number of reasons.

In today’s blog, we will share five reasons we believe people prefer petrol campervans and why we only have petrol campervans for sale here at Free Spirit Campervans.

Lower initial cost

Petrol campervans are generally cheaper to buy than diesel ones, which can be a major bonus for those on a budget. Additionally, petrol engines tend to be simpler to run and require less maintenance than diesel engines, which means that the overall cost of ownership can be lower over the lifetime of your campervan.

Better performance at lower speeds

Petrol engines tend to be more responsive at lower speeds, which is a real benefit for those who plan to do a lot of urban driving or travel on many of the winding roads that our country is home to! Many of our lovely Free Spirit Campervan owners choose to use their campervan as a daily driver for this very reason!

As well as this, petrol engines provide a smoother and quieter driving experience than diesel engines, which makes them great for travelling long distances in comfort.

Cheaper to run

Petrol is cheaper than diesel, which is very handy for those planning to take longer road trips across the country and beyond!

Lower Repair Costs

Petrol campervans are generally cheaper to repair due to their simpler design and lower cost of parts. As well as this, they require less intensive labour than diesel engines, so there is less precision required when working on them, which makes the process much quicker.

Lower emissions

While it’s true that diesel engines are generally more fuel-efficient than petrol engines, they tend to produce higher emissions and be worse for us and the environment. This is something a lot of people take into consideration when purchasing petrol vehicles, as it has an impact on us all!

Additionally, older diesel vehicles are generally not permitted in areas like the ULEZ Zone in London, due to their higher emissions; whilst most of our petrol campervans can pass through with ease. (Please get in touch to discuss whether your specific campervan meets the requirements.)

Buying a ULEZ-compliant campervan from us makes it very easy for you to drive around London on your next road trip, rather than having to find an alternative route, and it’s also very handy for those living in areas that the ULEZ zone is set to expand into.
